Monograph lecture: From reflection to competence - how to teach and learn languages effectively 3304-2DXW-ORDK-OG
The lecture will address the role of a reflective attitude in the learning process, conceived as the active construction of both knowledge and competence. These issues will be discussed in relation to two areas: firstly, the process of teaching/learning a foreign language, and secondly, the training and professional development of foreign language teachers.
The starting point for the proposed reflections will be the presentation of selected concepts from the psychology of learning (constructivism, cognitivism, socio-constructivism) and definitions of the following terms: reflection, reflexivity, metacognitive awareness, learning autonomy, knowledge, competence. Then, in the area of language teaching/learning, the lecture will enable students to learn or deepen their knowledge of developing learning skills, the possibilities of becoming a conscious and competent learner. In the area of teacher education, on the other hand, students will be introduced to the concept of reflective practice (assumptions, forms of implementation, advantages and limitations), the issue of the influence of teachers' subjective theories on their teaching practice, the possibilities of self-evaluation (working with a portfolio) and the question of the competences required of a teacher together with the criteria of success in foreign language teaching (what does it mean to be an effective foreign language teacher?).
