Literary text analysis 3304-1DP2O-ATL
The course is structured in order to place emphasis on the literary analysis of selected short text extracts (prose and poetry) written between the seventeenth and the twenty-first centuries. It aims to show students the multifaceted nature of literary texts, teach them to identify layers and various meanings other than pure literal understanding of a given text. Students will become familiar with the techniques of explication linéaire and commentaire composé, which they will be required to use in their own analyses. The course will look at selected issues in literary theory, e.g. types of narration or different stylistic figures. Emphasis will be placed on editing the introduction, ending and outline of the analysis. The course should allow students to practise their writing skills in French, as well as logical thinking and organizing and expressing thoughts.
