Practical English for Linguistics CLIL 1 3301-2ST-J-PACLIL1
The course intends to help students develop their academic writing skills in the context of the MA thesis in light of current writing conventions in the English language. The course develops a specific area of academic competences, including academic vocabulary, grammatical structures, and expressions typically found in scientific works, etc.. Students will learn how to formulate arguments concisely and clearly and cite publications appropriately using the chosen referencing style (e.g. APA, Chicago, etc.). Another important element of the course is to raise awareness of the intellectual property and copyright laws and their application in writing academic works.
The course will cover different areas of linguistics. The course is offered in different modes depending on the academic teacher, including onsite meetings and working with the Moodle platform

Learning outcomes
Knowledge. Students will be able to:
K_W05 Identify the notions and principles pertinent to intellectual property and copyright in the context of a research paper and the MA thesis.
K_W06 Characterise factors relevant for the professional activities that are related to the discipline of linguistics and the course programme.
Abilities. Students will be able to:
K_U01 Apply advanced terminology and notions pertinent to the discipline of linguistics
K_U07 Use modern technology in the process of learning and communicating with academic teachers, colleagues, representatives of various institutions and fellow participants in classes and projects, applying various channels and techniques of communication
K_U09 Present knowledge in a coherent, precise and linguistically correct manner in English on level C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, ensuring an appropriate register and form in the context of writing the MA thesis
Social competences. Students will be ready to:
K_K03 Take responsibility for performing one’s professional duties, with due respect for the work of others, and obey and develop the ethical norms in professional and academic settings related to the discipline of linguistics.
Education at language level B2+.
Assessment criteria
Written assignments during the course. The teacher will provide students with specific information about the tasks that need to be performed in order to complete the course.
