Academic writing with elements of punctuation 3221-S2-FBA-PTNI-OG
During classes, students will be required to present fragments of their works, their topics, plan, bibliography and research methods.
In relation to the above, the following topics will be discussed during the classes:
1. Composition of a scientific article, chapter of research papers and a diploma thesis.
2. Main and secondary text, quotations, references, footnotes.
3. Sentence, paragraph, chapter.
4. Linguistic and stylistic correctness.
5. Intra- and inter-word characters, rules of graphic abbreviations in Belarusian.
6. Abstract, bibliography, summary.
7. Ethical dimension of writing academic papers: criticism and correction as an indication of the potential of the work.

Learning outcomes
Graduates will know and understand:
- the subject and methodological specifics of research in language studies;
- various functions of language in the context of, e.g. literature, culture, religion, history, art, politics, economy or media;
- the nature of language and the impact of historical and cultural changes on its development;
- notions and rules pertaining to intellectual property protection, in particular copyright.
Graduates will be able to:
- search for, analyse, evaluate, select and use information by consulting sources in various languages, including on-line sources under unpredictable conditions;
- formulate and analyse research problems in the area of language studies, choose innovative research methods and tools, including advanced information and communication technology, as well as prepare and present findings, also under unpredictable conditions;
- use theories, research paradigms and concepts common to language studies while communicating with various circles of recipients during debates and discussions;
- recognise the relations between linguistics and other disciplines as well as indicate their practical implications;
- speak a foreign language at the level indicated in the course syllabus, also in the context of specialist communication;
- lead teamwork and cooperate within a team;
- individually plan and pursue his or her own process of lifelong learning as well as provide others with guidance in this respect.
Graduates are prepared to:
- critically evaluate his or her knowledge and the content he or she receives;
- establish priorities in order to achieve a goal set by him or her in the area of social obligations;
- correctly identify and solve professional dilemmas in accordance with tradition and professional ethics as well as develop professional competences.

- attendance and participation in classes (2 unexcused absences allowed)
- timely completion of own work
- assessment - presentation of the results of one's own work - scientific text (article, chapter of work).
Detailed assessment criteria, resulting from the form of work proposed by the lecturer, will be provided during classes.
