A selection of issues.
– Typical contrastive research, applied and theoretical confrontational research with semantic interlanguage.
– Structure of the interlanguage, its nature and functions.
– Formal plane vs. meaning (sentence) plane.
– Form vs. function.
– Morphological category vs. semantic category.
– Description of selected semantic categories (e.g., time, definiteness-indefiniteness). Identification of exponents in Polish and Lithuanian for the highlighted semantic subcategories.
Individual issues are discussed based on works in linguistics, linguistic engineering, and linguistic resources and tools available on the web.

Upon completion of the seminar, the student
– correctly identifies the assumptions and methods of traditional (formal) and contemporary approaches used in the analysis of linguistic facts, is familiar with resources and tools for linguistic analysis (including taggers, corpora of Baltic and Slavic languages), distinguishes between formal and semantic planes in language,
– can perform linguistic analysis within the framework of formal and semantic approaches, use resources and tools during material excerpting and linguistic analysis.
Assessment criteria
Evaluation based on class activity and presentation of selected linguistics articles.
The student is entitled to two absences per semester, each subsequent absence must be credited in a manner agreed in advance with the instructor.
During the coursework, students may use AI models and tools, e.g. for collecting materials, searching them, compiling research status or creating bibliographies. However, the use of generative AI for interpretative purposes, for the creation of a written statement or for the development of text passages is excluded.
