1. The nature of Polish punctuation. The relationship of punctuation to syntax.
2. Obligatory and optional rules of punctuation .

5. Punctuation in simple and complex statements. Difficult syntactic contexts for the use of the comma.
6. Non-interpunctuation characters (apostrophe, hyphen, slash, space)
7. Spelling of initials.
8. Spelling of abbreviations, spelling and inflection of acronyms and words derived from acronyms.
9. Punctuation in enumerations and in captions under illustrations.
10.Lowercase and capital letters.
11.Spelling together and separately.
12. The orthographic and inflectional problems connected with proper names (surnames, geographical names, names of inhabitants, adjectives formed from local names).

Learning outcomes
The student knows and understands:
- rules of punctuation in various types of texts;
- rules of Polish spelling;
- rules of inflection and its spelling of surnames and geographical names;
- rules of inflection and spelling of abbreviations and acronyms.
Student is able to:
- use punctuation rules correctly;
- use the rules of Polish spelling correctly;
- use proper names correctly and create words derived from them;
- use abbreviations and acronyms correctly.
The student is ready:
- independently solve spelling and punctuation problems, using available sources;
- use the rules of graphic text organization, which make it easier for the reader to read the texts.
Assessment criteria
Workload and ECTS points:
- participation in classes: 30 hours (1 ECTS);
- preparation for classes (performing tasks, works, tests, other activities): 30 hours (1 ECTS);
- preparation for the final test: 30 hours (1 ECTS).
Passing all homework (using Google Clasroom or platform Kampus) and tests (at the level of at least 60%). Passing the final test (at least 60% level).
Students are entitled to two unexcused absences per semester.
If students have more unexcused absences, they do not receive course credit.
If students want to justify their absences, they must document their objective reasons (e.g. sick leave) within a week.
Students are obliged to make up extra excused absences in the manner indicated by the person conducting the classes.
Basis: Regulations of studies at the University of Warsaw:
a. 17 § 2,
b. 4. 5 § 17,
c. § 33.
If students use artificial intelligence tools for the purpose of final work or partial work, they must
a. obtain the consent of the person conducting the classes,
b. agree with the person conducting the classes on the goals and scope of use of artificial intelligence tools.
Students cannot use artificial intelligence tools to edit works in Polish unless the instructor agrees to it.
If someone uses artificial intelligence tools:
a. without the consent of the person conducting the classes or
b. in a manner not agreed with her,
the person conducting the classes applies procedures analogous to those used in the anti-plagiarism procedure. These procedures were described by the University Council for Education in Resolution No. 14.
