Greek and Latin Reading 3006-LAO3
By reading fragments of classical works chosen by the teacher the student prepares themselves to read the books of the authors from the canon of required reading on their own and to pass them according to the list of reading for the each year of studies
The attention is focused on:
- the ability of correct reading and skillful translating of a text and analyzing its grammar structure,
- the basic knowledge about the author and his work (the literary and historical context)
- the knowledge about characters, places, historical events and other facts mentioned in a text;
- the ability of the analysis of the critical apparatus, the basis knowledge of the manuscript tradition of a text (since the second year of the first grade’s studies),
- in the case of poetry – the knowledge of metrics.

The student
In the range of knowledge
- characterizes a syntax of the read text
- locates the read works in the general cultural and historical context;
- studies on their own and develops their research abilities according to the teacher’s advices and their own sense of duty and self-discipline;
- recognizes the basic metric measures in the Greek and Latin poetry;
in the range of social competences
- describes the level of their knowledge and abilities.
Assessment criteria
Passing based on the attendance in the classes; the final mark is average of each passed reading from the list of books for the particular year of studies.
