The forms of the e-book and its circulation 2700-L-PW-D3FKEJO
The classes have a seminar character, and the following issues are discussed during the course:
- the history of e-books on a physical medium and accessed online,
- the composition of electronic books and their functionality in comparison to printed books,
- the formats of e-books and the software and devices used for reading them,
- the forms of electronic book distribution,
- statistics from the publishing market showing the expansion of the e-book.
Every discussion begins by a presentation of papers prepared by chosen students on a subject planned for the next class. The evaluation is based on the students’ papers and their activity during the classes.

KNOWLEDGE:
A student knows and understands: the situation of all products in electronic form (with particular emphasis on e-books) on the publishing market, the basics of terminology related to the e-book and its functioning in the circulation of books; rules governing the demand for new media and issues related to the copyright protection (K_W02, K_W05, K_W06, K_W07).
SKILLS:
A student is able to: analyze and interpret the functioning of entities involved in the production, dissemination and collection of electronic books; compare the situation of e-books in our country with the trends in the countries with the most developed publishing industry and assess the possibilities of using global solutions in publishing (including self-publishing); function in the contemporary infrastructure of the book market (K_U03, K_U04, K_U09).
OTHER COMPETENCIES:
The student is ready to: actively participate in activities for the preservation of cultural heritage (with particular emphasis on writings heritage); estimate the chances of success and the scale of activity in the electronic book market (K_K02, K_K03).
Assessment criteria
Students receive a grade, which is the resultant of the grades obtained for the preparation and presentation of papers, homework, and for being active during class discussions.
