Social surroundings of libraries 2700-L-IN-Z5OSB
In the first part of the course, students learn about the methods of cooperation with the local community and the idea of a participatory library. They will learn about the benefits and challenges of opening libraries for the social environment. They prepare a catalog of good practices in the field of cooperation with the local community.
In the second part of the course, students design and present a program of cooperation with the local community for a selected library.

Learning outcomes
The student knows and understands:
- history, rules and forms of creating and operating libraries of various types in the context of cooperation with the social environment,
- methods, forms and sociological as well as psychological and social conditions of communication with library users and other cultural institutions.
The student is able to:
- conduct educational, animation and promotional activities related to information and cultural activities, especially reading,
- analyze the functioning of cultural and information institutions, evaluate the effectiveness of the provision of cultural and information services,
- communicate with the use of various communication channels and techniques with specialists in the field of social communication and media sciences, especially book and information science.
The student is ready to:
- compliance and enforcement of the professional ethics of employees in the field of culture and / or information,
- care for the achievements and traditions of employees in the field of culture and / or information,
- thinking and acting in an entrepreneurial way in relation to professional institutions and activities in the area of information and / or culture.
Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment based on substantive preparation for classes and activity during classes.
The pass mark for the course is to obtain a sufficient number of attendance, activity and presentation of a participatory activity / project of cooperation with the social environment. Presentations during classes. The order of presentation will depend on the size of the group and the topic.
One unexcused and one excused absence per semester is allowed. The student has the opportunity to make up for the absence by verbal passing the topic discussed in the class.
It is not possible to correct positive ratings.
