Language savoir-vivre 2700-L-DM-Z4JSVI-PRM
Within course are discussed: the principles and strategies of Polish savoir-vivre, comparison of the Polish social savoir-vivre to the codified system of international business standards. Polish language and extra-linguistic politeness is confronted with the courtesy of other cultures. Discussed is features: greetings, apologies, introducing. Practical analysis is carried out on official letters, emails, how to use business cards.

KNOWLEDGE
1. Students know the function of linguistic politeness behaviours and the non-verbal behaviours that accompany or replace them.
2. Students know how and when use profession titles and ranks.
3. Students know the rules of writing letters and e-mails.
4. Students know the concept of so-called nawias grzecznościowy.
5. Students know the differences between a social courtesy and professional courtesy.
SKILLS
1. Students can use polite forms of language to affect their own communication effectiveness in different types of speaking (writing).
2. Students can use professional titles tailored to the caller and the situation of speaking.
3. Students can write and address the official letter, e-mail, using appropriate language forms, including a courtesy.
4. Students can start the verbal interaction, continue it as well as know how to end it.
5. Students can verbalise certain functions of politeness, adjusting their form when needed.
OTHER COMPETENCES
Students are aware of the changes in polite manners since 1989 and understand the need to seek consensus between generations.
Assessment criteria
Final test. Attendance at classes is compulsory.
