Journalist's workshop part I 2700-L-DM-D3WAD-DZI
ALL CLASSES ARE PRACTICAL.
Students:
• analyze the structure and composition of selected texts of press releases from national and international,
• edit texts in class,
• write texts, the questions or topics invented by themselves; all the works are discussed jointly or reviewed individually
NOTES:
• all work must occur on an ongoing basis, there is no possibility of putting the effort only in the exam, or retake it. deadlines for putting the work as teachers agree. in each semester, the student prepares 3-4 works
• in class works are read together, discussed, edited, some jobs are processed without the lecturer by the students together
• various themes are introduced according to the degree of difficulty - students start from the brief information, and end the cycle of classes reportage. Each text has a reference volume, given the number of characters, including spaces.
• each new topic is introduced by the scheme: theoretical introduction to the genre (his place in journalism and ways of implementation), the analysis of the genre in the press local and foreign, short exercises in class, the realization of independent work in their own time, the evaluation of each text, discussion of texts classes,
• all tasks have to be prepared independently
• there are provided also group tasks to conduct them in the classroom

KNOWLEDGE:
• Knows the genres discussed in the class and is able to distinguish them.
• Knows linguistic style characteristics specific to each genre.
• Can mention the names of the best Polish press journalists.
• Knows what factors determine the strength and quality of news
• Knows concepts: lead, authentication, research, background, deadline, the inverted pyramid principle, the principle of five classic questions, etc..
• Knows that information in the text should be presented arguments on all sides of the conflict.
• Knows editorial structure of the press, the basic tasks of individual members of its function as well as jargon vocabulary they use.
• Knows how to document the topic and where, in addition to the Internet, look for sources of information
SKILLS:
• Student can separate the information from the commentary in journalistic texts.
• can assess the accuracy of the leads in the text.
• can find the most interesting statement coming from the so-called conference.
• can get to the personal sources of information and arrange a speech or interview.
• cna analyze the value of the texts published in the press.
OTHER COMPETENCES:
• Understands that journalistic integrity is the foundation of the profession.
• knows what wealth is a great language as an asset in journalistic work.
• Is aware of the legal restrictions imposed on the journalist: authorization, violation of personal rights.
• student is aware of individual level of interpersonal skills.
Assessment criteria
