Introduction to the creation of digital collections 2700-L-API-D5WDTKC
As part of the theoretical part with active participation of students:
theoretical principles of approaching digital collections, their division due to different aspects of use, creation and operation will be discussed,
possible sources of funding and expansion of digital collections will be presented,
students will learn about the file formats used to store digital objects and the metadata formats used in digital collections,
methods and techniques for digitization of various types of physical objects and standards used in digitization will be presented,
aspects of accessibility of websites and electronic documents for people with disabilities will be discussed,
students will become familiar with Polish and foreign digital collections, which will be critically discussed,
IT aspects of maintaining digital collections, including ensuring long-term accessibility and archiving, will be addressed,
the potential of artificial intelligence in the context of the development and processing of digital collections will be discussed,
copyright law aspects related to digital collections will be addressed.
In the practical part, students, on the basis of the acquired knowledge, will prepare assumptions for the creation of a digital collection. They will create a plan for its maintenance and further expansion, taking into account specific environmental conditions.

Assessment criteria
The passing of the course will take into account:
attendance in class (one possible unexcused absence, absences require independent study of the material covered in class in the form agreed with the instructor),
activity during classes.
The passing for the class will be the creation of a project related to the digital collection, in which the complexity of the approach to the topic will be evaluated, as well as the quality of execution of the task.
