This is the MBA course in financial management primarily intended for executives with little, if any, previous familiarity with the firm and its problems. An elementary knowledge of accounting, statistics, and microeconomics is helpful. It is designed to provide a broad exposure to financial principles and the techniques of financial analysis. Students intending a concentration in finance should view this course as a first course in corporate finance and an introduction to investments, banking, and international finance. Students planning a concentration in other areas will gain an appreciation for the breadth and depth of the finance function.

Competences developed in this course are connected with three basic questions that financial manager has to answer:
• How should the firm’s scarce resources be allocated? (Investment Decisions)
• How should these investments be financed? (Financing Decisions)
• How much of the generated cash flows should be returned to the owners and how much should be reinvested? (Payout Decisions)
Skills developed are calculation of cost of capital, capital budgeting analytical techniques, bond, stock and option valuation, financial ratios analysis, risk assessment in corporate finance.
Assessment criteria
The course grade will be based on case reports, the case presentation, class discussion, and a final exam. The final exam will cover material from the lecture, assignments, and the text. Students will be provided with decorative detail of the exam. The exam will be open book and open notes. The use of outside files and materials from other students is forbidden. You may need a calculator or a computer.
Six case reports (a case report will count 5 points) 30 points
