Analysis of dog communication 2500-PL-SPZ-F-21

Term 2023L:

We will discuss and interpret the behavior of dogs and their caregivers, based on video materials from behavioral consultations.
Videos illustrating the behavior of dogs towards other dogs and people will be presented and the students will be asked to interpret behaviors. Their hypotheses will be discussed and then verified by watching subsequent materials.
The films will be supplemented with basic information about dogs - age, gender, health, social conditions, behavioral problems.

We will discuss:
- Emotions present in a given situation.
- Triggers that trigger certain behaviors.
- The intentions of the dog/dogs and people.
- Existing conflicts and ways to solve them.
- Decisions on the type of effective intervention or lack of it.
- Possible changes,mistakes, ways to help the dog and the caregiver.

Prerequisites (description)

Learning outcomes

Knowledge of the types of behaviors used by dogs in communication and the terminology of their description.
Ability to interpret messages used by dogs. Ability to respond appropriately to dog communication.
Ability to help dog caregivers communicate better with their dogs.
