(in Polish) Digital Europe 2105-M-D3DIEU
The course run as a seminar (class discussion) is devoted to a reflection on chosen digital processes in the European Union and Poland. This subject covers the development and the current stage of the European Union’s information and digital society, tools applied in its implementation, factors playing an important role in creation of its shape and scope as well as on positive and negative effects of digitalization.
These covers following topics:
1. Concepts of information and knowledge-based societies
2. History of the development of the information and digital society of the European Union
3. Causes of the technological gap between the European Union on one hand and the USA and Japan on the other hand
4. Achievements of the European Union in the development of the information and digital society in the period of the “Lisbon Strategy” and the “Europe 2020”strategy
5. Acceleration of the development of information and communications technologies at the beginning of the XXI century
6. The most important information and communications technologies playing a crucial role in the digital revolution process of the XXI century
7. The role of innovations in the development of digital processes and its impact on the European and global economy.
8. Aims of the new European Union’s programme “Digital Europe” in the direction towards the development of a digitalization process for the period 2021-2027.
9. The concept of the European gigabit society
10. Applications of the information and communications technologies in the sphere of electronic public services, business and people’s everyday fife.
11. Digital economy
12.. Digitalization processes in Poland
13.. European Union’s solutions in the sphere of cybersecurity
14. Impact of unforeseen circumstances as for example the COVID-19 pandemic on digitalization processes.
15. Information sources on digitalization in the European Union, Poland and on the world
Topisc will be shaped depending upon Students's interesta.
Student’s workload:

After completing the course students:
- deepened knowledge of the development of the information and digital society of the European Union
- knowledge on main aims of the “Digital Europe” programme of the European Union
- knowledge on newest information and communications technologies accelerating the XXIth century digital revolution
- understand the concept of the European gigabit society
- deepened knowledge on factors shaping digitalization and its impact on the development of the European and global economy and society
- knowledge on activities of the European Union in the area of cybersecurity
- knowledge on digitalization in Poland
- skilled at using information sources and services on digitalization in the European Union, Poland and on the world

Assessment criteria
The assessment on a grade presented during the last class in a semester will be based on the attendance which is mandatory, active participation and delivery of a short presentation or a coursework.
