In the scope of work and organizational psychology, the following topics will be covered:
History and areas of interest in work and organizational psychology.
Research methods and techniques in work and organizational psychology.
Structure and development of organizations. Organizational models and leadership. Selected theories.
Organizational culture and climate. Typologies and methods of studying organizational culture.
Social processes in the work environment. Mechanisms of social influence.
Communication in organizations.
Conflicts and ways to resolve them.
The role and methods of job analysis.
Human capabilities and limitations in the work environment. The impact of individual differences on professional functioning.
Employee selection and evaluation. Psychological aspects of assessment. Recruitment and selection methods.
Competencies and qualifications as the basis of personnel policy. Matching person’s competency to jobs. Workplace training.
Motivation to work. Motivational and developmental systems. Job satisfaction and professional development.
Ergonomics and workplace architecture. Engineering psychology.
Dysfunctions and pathologies in organizations. Workplace violence, bullying, addictions, discrimination.
Work stress and burnout. Preventing psychological work overload.

Learning outcomes
Student has knowledge on:
- K_W02 - social relationships in the context of work and mechanisms of social influence;
- K_W05 - research methods and tools used in work and organizational psychology for gathering data on organizational functioning and workplace studies;
- factors related to matching people to jobs, psychological aspects of employee assessment and selection, motivational and developmental systems.
- specifics of organizational functioning, organizational models and culture;
- selected issues related to the work environment.
In terms of skills, the student is able to:
- K_U08 - build a task team, planning and organizing its work, and actively cooperating with others.
- identify factors influencing the adaptation of a person to the work environment;
- recognize conditions affecting the employee's workload at the workplace;
- identify factors enabling good cooperation and causes of problems in the organization, as well as sources of stress and its effects;
- propose solutions to increase job satisfaction and improve the functioning of the organization;
The student develops the following competences and attitudes:
- is aware of the complexity of problems related to diagnosis and intervention in the work environment;
- notices the influence of individual characteristics that determine good functioning in a given position;
- recognices the relationship between the work environment, employee selection, and their efficiency, safety, and job satisfaction;
- respects others' worldviews and their diversity;
- appreciats the role of adhering to norms and ethical principles in the work environment.
