Changes of the labour market in Poland and in the world 2103-ORP-L-D1PPSP
The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge about theoretical and practical factors influencing the changes in work in Poland and around the world. This should allow students to identify the relationships between various processes that influence the situation on the labour market. In practice, this will allow them to recognize these processes, understand them better and use this knowledge in their professional work.
Detailed topics of classes:
1. Introductory classes, basic definitions of work, labour market as a place of exchange between employers and employees.
2. Labour markets in various dimensions: local, national and international - interconnections.
3. Globalization of labour markets – is any labour market autonomous?
4. Competitiveness in terms of work. Why do some people earn less and others more? Why do investments go where they do?
5. Why are some people unemployed and why others have no problem with it? Factors of success and failure on the labour market.
6. Education – does it really guarantee success on the labour market?
7. Labor migrations - searching for one's place in the world. Costs and benefits in individual and social dimensions.
8. Demography - aging society and youth potential. How labour markets are changing under the influence of demographic processes.
9. Are women and men equal in the labour market? If not, why is this happening?
10. Innovation – why is Facebook worth so much? Or maybe it's worth nothing?
11. The place of the Polish labour market in the European Union and in the world.
12. Institutions and entities on the labour market - what are they for and what is their real importance.
13. Competition of labour markets - China, India, EU, USA, Russia.
14. Forecasts regarding changes in the labour market - the end of work or work for all.
15. Summary of classes, relationships between various factors influencing changes in the field of work.

Learning outcomes
After completing the series of lectures, the student should achieve the following results:
KNOWLEDGE:
K_W01 - the student knows and understands the specificity of political and administrative sciences compared to other sciences and the place of labour sciences within the social sciences.
K_W03 - the student knows and understands theories describing norms and rules organizing work and the labour market, as well as social structures and institutions created on their basis; knows their sources, understands the conditions and consequences of their use in the areas of practical and professional activity.
K_W06 the student knows and understands at an advanced level axiological concepts relating to human work, its role in human life and its impact on the shape of social relationships and structures.
The student should:
- understand the basic laws applicable in labour markets,
- know the basic theories explaining the ongoing work processes,
- have knowledge about the main factors determining the competitiveness of a given labour market,
-know the basic indicators describing the situation on the labour market, including local, national and international ones.
SKILLS:
K_U01 the student is able to use knowledge in the field of labour sciences for practical purposes
to analyze and interpret social processes and phenomena occurring in the area of work and the labour market.
K_U02 - the student is able to use the acquired knowledge in the field of labour sciences to indicate the causes of the occurrence of and
the course of social processes and phenomena taking place in the field of work and on the labour market.
K_U03 - the student is able to use knowledge and analytical tools to forecast the practical consequences of changes taking place in the field of work, including the selection and use of advanced information and communication techniques.
Student:
- is able to identify basic economic and social problems related to work and assess their impact on the quality of life,
- is able to analyze the impact of individual social and economic factors on the situation on the labour market and, consequently, on the quality of life,
- is able to analyze the relationships between individual labour markets: local, national and international.
SOCIAL COMPETENCES: the student is ready to:
K_K01 - practical use of knowledge in professional activities; recognizing the importance of knowledge in the field of social sciences, work sciences, etc. in everyday functioning.
K_K02 - critical assessment of knowledge and taking into account experts' opinions in determining priorities in the implementation of specific tasks.
K_K03 - preparing research and practical social projects related to the field of work and the labour market, using the knowledge acquired during studies and being able to supplement it, as well as effectively cooperating with other people, including obtaining knowledge from experts.
Student:
- is able to analyze literature on labour market policy and draw conclusions;
- is able to translate the knowledge obtained during the lecture into the practical functioning of labour markets: local, national and international.
Assessment criteria
Assessment consisting of two parts (essay - 20%/test 80%).
1. Essay on one of the selected problems.
2. Passing test - the result of the written exam is crucial.
