The lecture is to present the main content about the methodology and methods of social research. His subject matter includes the following topics:
Research methods and techniques - the science of social policy in comparison to other sciences. Typologies research.
The research process in social sciences.
Ingredients research concept.
Sociological variables and their indicators
Qualitative research and selected niesondażowe methods.
Surveys.
Cross-sectional studies, dynamic and pseudodynamiczne.
Comprehensive study and research trials.
Experiment in social sciences.
Evaluation studies.
Classes are devoted to deepening the students' knowledge of the key components of the research process in empirical social research and acquiring technical skills in selected research methods - content analysis and surveys. On exercises will be placed special emphasis on independent, creative work of students and systematic knowledge acquisition methodology.

.Through the implementation of the course, the student acquires basic methodological knowledge of empirical social research and social research methodology. He/she also acquires skills in the application of selected research techniques.
After completing the course (lecture and exercises) the student:
K_W01 knows and understands basic methods and techniques of conducting research in the field of social policy - in the field of sociological workshop
K_U01 is able - on the basis of empirical research - to interpret social phenomena correctly recognizing social problems, social issues and social risks
K_U04 is able to design and carry out simple social research in the field of social policy, selecting and applying adequate methods and tools correctly
K_U06 is able to prepare written reports on his/her own empirical research
K_U09 is able to plan and organise his/her own work, as well as build a small research team
K_K01 is ready to critically evaluate his/her own knowledge and external communications in the field of social policy referring to the results of empirical research
K_K02 is ready to participate in preparing research projects and creating concepts for social programmes in the field of social policy, using the knowledge gained during his/her studies and being able to supplement it, including with the support of experts, as well as effectively cooperating with others.
Assessment criteria
Workshops: evaluation of knowledge of the recommended literature and evaluation of the ability to independently conduct research and develop its results, with particular emphasis on creating their concepts and research tools; attendance in class; passing the knowledge test.
Examination requirements (written exam): knowledge of issues discussed in lectures and workshops and the ability to apply this knowledge to solve specific research problems. Attendance at lectures is compulsory. Students absent for 3 or more lectures in a semester are not admitted to the final examination and do not receive credit for the course.
The form of the SUBJECT credit is a written examination. The subject of the examination is the knowledge and skills taught during lectures and exercises. A CONDITION FOR ENROLLMENT IN THE EXAMINATION is obtaining a credit for the workshops and attendance at lectures.
Students who score particularly well in the exercises (very good grades in the test and papers) receive a relevant commentary in USOS, which results in a 0.5 increase in the course grade.
ALL STUDENTS REPEATING A SUBJECT, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE REASON IS FAILURE IN AN EXERCISE (WORKSHOP) OR FAILURE IN AN EXAMINATION, ARE OBLIGED TO ATTEND WORKSHOPS AND LECTURES ON A GENERAL BASIS. UNLESS THE COURSE DIRECTOR DECIDES OTHERWISE.
