Basics of management 2103-L-D3PODZI
The seminar will present the management process with its features, functions and levels. The seminar presents the characteristics of contemporary organisations and their role and place in the environment. Topics covered include the presentation of traditional and contemporary trends in management, types of organisational structures, the construction of organisations and ways of describing them, organisational behaviour (motivations, group processes), leadership and leadership styles in organisations, decision-making in organisations, process, skills, techniques. Particular emphasis will be placed on the analysis of management doctrines and instruments that find their application in social policy entities.
Other topics include:
- social policy institutions - introduction, basic definitions, organisation, activities, financing;
- management of social policy institutions - selected areas of social policy;
- management of social policy institutions - global, international, national, regional and local dimensions;
- strategic management (essence, basic methods of strategic analysis).

Learning outcomes
Students will learn to understand the institutional and organisational foundations of social policy entities, including the principles of their management and financing (K_W09) .
Student(k)a is able to plan and organise his/her own work, as well as to build a task team and within it to cooperate actively with other persons in the field of preparing tasks connected with analysing the management system in public and private entities (K_U09).
Student(s) is (are) ready to:
- participate in the preparation of research projects and the creation of concepts for social programmes in the field of social policy, using the knowledge gained during the studies and being able to supplement it, including using the support of experts, as well as effectively cooperating with
cooperating effectively with others (K_K02);
- think and act in an entrepreneurial way, taking into consideration creating plans for development of social policy entities and planning their activities (K_K03);
- correctly identify and solve dilemmas related to performing managerial and management functions in social policy entities (K_K04 ).
Assessment criteria
A prerequisite for passing the course is:
- attendance in class and preparation for class;
- participation in class discussions and workshop exercises;
- preparation of a mini-project in a team;
- passing an exam.
More than 2 absences require a credit on the instructor's duty within two weeks after the absence. In the case of absence in more than 4 classes the student is not graded in the course. Failure to pass the third or fourth absence also results in failing the course.
The subject ends with a written assessment.
