The lecture is designed to present and systematise the basic content of social research methodology and methodology - with particular emphasis on the methods developed by sociology. Its topics include the following:
Research methods and techniques - social policy science in comparison with other sciences. Typologies of research.
The research process in the social sciences.
Components of the research concept.
Sociological variables and their indicators.
Qualitative research and selected non-survey research methods.
Qualitative research versus quantitative research. The relationship between selected social science paradigms and research methodology.
Survey research.
Cross-sectional, dynamic and pseudo-dynamic research.
Holistic and sample-based research.
Experimentation in the social sciences.
Evaluation research.
The workshop is dedicated to deepening students' knowledge of the key components of the research process in empirical social research and to acquiring workshop skills in selected qualitative and quantitative research methods. During the workshop there will be a particular emphasis on students' independent, creative work and systematic acquisition of methodological knowledge.

KW_01 - the graduate knows and understands the logic of the process of empirical social research, knows the terminology of social science methodology, as well as knows and understands the basic methods and techniques of conducting empirical research in the field of social policy using sociological methods.
K_U01- graduate is able to interpret researched social phenomena.
K_U04 - graduate is able to design and implement a simple social research in the field of social policy, correctly selecting and applying appropriate qualitative or quantitative methods and creating research tools.
K_U06 - graduate is able to create written research projects and reports on their research.
K_U09 - graduate is able to plan and organise his/her own work, as well as build a team carrying out a simple research project.
K_K01 - the graduate is ready to recognise the importance of scientific evidence for social policy as a practical activity.
K_K02 - the graduate is ready to participate in the preparation of research projects, using the knowledge gained during the studies and being able to supplement it by cooperating effectively with others.
Assessment criteria
Course in Polish.
WORKSHOPS: evaluation of the knowledge of the recommended literature and evaluation of the ability to conduct research independently, with particular emphasis on creating their concepts and research tools - project; attendance in class; passing the knowledge test.
A written exam is a form of passing the SUBJECT. The subject of the exam is the knowledge and skills acquired during the lectures and exercises. A prerequisite for the exam is the pass mark credit of the classes and attendance at lectures.
Students who score particularly well in the workshops (very good grades for the test and research projects) receive a relevant commentary in USOS, which results in an increase in the course grade by 0.5.
ALL STUDENTS REPEATING A SUBJECT, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE REASON IS FAILURE IN THE EXERCISES (WORKSHOPS) OR FAILURE IN THE EXAMINATION, ARE OBLIGED TO PARTICIPATE IN WORKSHOPS AND LECTURES ACCORDING TO THE GENERAL RULES. OTHER RULES FOR PASSING A REPEATED COURSE MAY BE LAID DOWN BY THE HEAD OF STUDIES.
