The history of social questions and social policy 2103-L-D1HKSPS
The seminar is focused on a detailed discussion of the origins of social policy and social issues. Preparation requires time to read the assigned readings for the class (memoirs, memoirs, studies). The class will discuss the concept of social policy and social issues (various definitions). This will be followed by a general indication of the occurrence of social issues in Poland at different times and a comparison with other countries. During the classes, the following issues will be discussed: demographic problems (e.g. migration), as well as social issues: workers, peasants, poverty, unemployment, housing, education, leisure time, national minorities, health, ecology, as well as the problem of equality between men and women and social pathologies. The class will conclude with a summary, including, among other things, a discussion of projections of the incidence of particular social issues. Topics range from the Industrial Revolution (19th century) to the Autumn of Nations (20th century).
