Territorial government foreign policy 1900-7-PZST-ZST
Classes are held in the form of a seminar. Students analyze sources from literature and primary data using, inter alia, knowledge gained during Governance and Multi-Level Management courses. Then, a discussion occurs during the classes, which is reflected in the semester papers prepared by the Students. Classes end with a term paper prepared, as a rule, in groups of two.
The work should be in the form of a scientific article and contain: abstract, keywords, research question and/or hypotheses posed in the article, description of the context, development of the topic and conclusion. It should be divided into parts reflecting the accepted argumentation. The work must absolutely maintain the form of a scientific work when it comes to citing and discussing other authors' work. Work that does not comply with these requirements, even if only to a small extent, will automatically fail the item or have further consequences if the copyright rules are violated. The work should be about 5,000-9,000 words.
The work is not the only element of the subject evaluation. The second element is involvement in the seminar. First of all, the one on which the topic you are working on is being discussed. The discussion on each topic is conducted by people who have assigned to the topic - they present literature, issues, research questions and others. Presentation on the displayed slides is not necessary, but if the debate on the topic does not occur, I will not be able to approve the topic in class, thus in the class.
Lectures:
1. Foreign policy of local governments - introduction to the theory of cooperation and network in the international context;
2. Attitudes, alliances and models in foreign relations of local governments
3. Cross-border cooperation
4. European Territorial Cooperation
Workshops:
Prepared by the couple/person dealing with the topic: conducting discussions, stimulating questions/problems; introductory and/or final presentation (15 min).
Two weeks before the workshop, the person/persons responsible for conducting the workshop assigns to the other students' tasks that they must fulfil to pass the classes. Of course, the teacher may react in disputes as to the scope of assigned tasks.
The tasks assigned to other students could be, for example: analysis and discussion during the workshop of articles related to the topic selected by the authors of the topic; preparation of a case study selected by the workshop leaders (based on existing data) illustrating the topic; reviewing materials prepared by other students, preparing a list of key questions for the topic of questions based on a literature query, and others. People/couples who carry out these tasks must send a written report on the performed task to the teachers a week after the classes. Depending on what the task is, it will be e.g. discussion of an article, a list of questions, a discussion of a case study or other.
These tasks can be assigned to individuals or groups of two.
The list of tasks for other students is sent by the workshop coordinators to the lecturer no later than two weeks before the workshop.
During the classes, there is a workshop during which all students fulfil their assigned roles and tasks.
The list of broad topics for selections by the students (to be detailed by the Students themselves):
