Strategic Analysis in Security Studies 1600-SZD-ASNB
The subject is carried out in the form of a lecture (15 h) - intended to be interactive, based on the activity of the audience.
The subject is an introduction to the theory and methods of strategic analysis. Although they essentially serve as management and planning tools in the activities of the state and private (economic) entities, we will attempt to reflect on their usefulness in scientific research in the discipline of security sciences.
The most important component of the class will be the presentation of the theory, methods and techniques of strategic analysis in formal and functional/task-based terms, as well as the complex context that determines the conditions for its implementation (including the analyst's workshop, his relationship with the environment, sources of pressure, cognitive limitations, risks of distorting the results of the analysis and ways to mitigate them).

Learning outcomes
After the class, each participant should be able to evaluate the usefulness of strategic analysis techniques and procedures in research. He/she should also understand:
- the needs and analytical considerations of the state arising from strategic management and planning processes in the security sector,
- understand the concept of intellectual and ethical standards in the analyst's work, the importance of asking the right questions, the spectrum of information sources and methods of verifying their reliability,
- the need to develop critical thinking skills and avoid cognitive pitfalls,
- be familiar with basic analytical methods and techniques, be able to use them for practical tasks, and be able to effectively present the results of analysis.
