Designing and planning research / preparing IRP,grant acquisition and management 1500-SDN-PIPB-F
The aim of the course is to prepare doctoral students to independently plan research and apply for grants. Doctoral students will be introduced to the principles of preparing research projects funded by external sources. During the classes, the most important external sources of funding, basic grant agencies (national and international), types of grants, general principles of applying for research project funding will be discussed, along with the key elements of a grant proposal, which is considered a special kind of scientific text. Special attention will be given to grants funded by the National Science Centre, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the European Commission.
Topics:
1. National and international research funding agencies.
2. National and international funding schemes.
3. Applying for grants – general advice for beginners.
4. Detailed rules for applying for grants (using examples from National Research Centre funding schemes).
5. Preparation of a research proposal and Individual Research Plan.
6. Evaluation of research funding applications.
7. Implementation of a research project and writing a final report.

Assessment criteria
A formal requirement for passing the class is obtaining a passing grade on the short research project description prepared by the doctoral student according to the guidelines provided during the class.
Doctoral students working on dissertations in the discipline of philosophy are particularly encouraged to attend the class, although doctoral students from other humanities disciplines are also welcome.
