Specialist geological and engineering field tests 1300-WSGIBP-GES
The aim of the classes is to present practical aspects of the geological and engineering field tests, as well as performing and reporting. The program includes workshops with the use of dynamic probing heavy DPH, cone penetrometer CPT/CPTU, Marchettti dilatometer and Menard pressuremeter. In the first stage of learning about research methods, each type of devices is discussed in detail and then presented in practice. Presentations enable easier understanding of the work principles and equipment operation as well as methodology of test performing. In addition, in the practical phase of the course, a trial and low depth test or probing with specialist instruments is carried out. This is an additional way to gain a more effective understanding of the geological and engineering field test rules. In the second stage of the research method cognition, a report based on the previously learned type of test is prepared. The basis for the report is the real test results obtained during the routine investigations performed in Poland area. The students get real data requiring proper analysis and elaboration in a clear and understandable form. A research report preparation requires careful analysis of the received data, appropriate charts preparation, correct calculations with the use of a spreadsheet and text preparation containing the methodology description , results presentation and conclusions. Consultations are possible during the lessons in order to clarify any doubts and correct any errors that may occur during the preparation of reports.
