Environmental geophysics 1300-WGOS201
The purpose of the course is to familiarize students of the Faculty of Geology with the capabilities of the application of geophysical methods in geological cartography. During the classes discussed are geophysical methods are discussed that allow the identification of:
- salinity and groundwater pollution
- impact on the geological environment of the industrial and municipal sedimentation tank
- determination of propagation of petroleum substances in case of the pipeline leak
- impact of landfills on the environment and groundwater
- technical condition of flood levees,
- geological surface to support the road construction
The lecture material is prepared based on the latest results of geophysical research published in scientific magazines.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course (lectures) a student:
- knows the geophysical methods that allow identifying of pollution and salinity of groundwater,
- can apply the geophysical methods to determine the impact on the geological environment of the industrial and municipal sedimentation tank
- can apply the geophysical methods for recognition the pollution zones of petroleum substances
- knows the geophysical methods that allow to determine the impact on the environment of the graveyards
- knows the geophysical methods for the diagnosis of technical condition of flood levees,
- can choose a set of geophysical research to support the recognition of geological surface for the road construction.
Assessment criteria
