Diploma seminar (engineering geology) 1300-OSD4GI
Seminars aim to familiarize students with the task of the problems commonly found during implementation of the thesis in engineering geology. The main tasks of the thesis work - on which the student attention will focus – are agreed. The presentation prepared by the student covers the essential information on the geology, hydrogeology and evaluation of engineering geological conditions of the studied area, and the methods selected to solve the problem posed in the thesis.
The following stages of the thesis implementation are discussed:
- methodological basis of research works,
- methodological basics of implementation of the thesis,
- preliminary table of contents – plan of the thesis,
- archival research - a review of the literature of the study area, interpretation of archival data

- knows methodological basics of implementation of the thesis,
- has the ability to prepare a preliminary table of contents - the work plan, which includes the main part of the thesis,
- is able to select and to examine archival materials,
- has a general knowledge of the methods of engineering geological field and laboratory research methods,
- assesses the criteria for the complexity of engineering geological conditions.
Assessment criteria
1. attendance at the seminar - a maximum of two absences during the whole semester are allowed, a third absence causes the student to fail the seminar.
2. assessment is based on the multimedia presentation (1-2 in a semester) prepared by the student and student’s activity during all seminars. Presentation is directly related to the student’s thesis.
