Thermotropic liquid crystalline phases (nematic, smectics, columnar phases, banana phases)
Elastic deformations in mesophases, classification of structural defects
Phase transition theories (Ising and Landau model, elements of renormalization theories)
Molecular chirality and structure chirality, chirality transfer mechanism
Ferroelectric and antiferroelectric liquid phases
Lyotropic liquid crystals and related biological structures.
Applications of mesogenic materials (liquid crystals displays, etc)
