Prerequisites (description)
In order to understand "Symmetry of molecules and crystals" student should firstly take either the basic or advanced course of crystallography or quantum chemistry. This lecture is concentrated on basic notions and applications of group theory. In particular, description of symmetry and its applications to analyse properties of molecules and crystals. Point and space group theory as well as colour point and space groups will be presented supplemented by space representation theory and its application to quantum mechanics and spectroscopy. The lecture aim is to discuss the fundamental role of symmetry in science.
