Organic Synthesis 1200-2BLOK1W1
Basic concepts in organic synthesis: designing of synthetic ways, idea of retrosynthesis, synthons. Transformation of functional groups. Protection groups in organic chemistry. Formation of carbon-carbon single bonds: alkylation and acylation of anion enolates; alkylation of relatively acidic methylene groups; alkylation of ketones, enamines and their application in organic synthesis. Heterocyclic compounds: synthesis and reactivity; nucleophilic and electrophilic substitution into heterocyclic ring. Supramolecular chemistry - background. Chemistry of macromolecules: mechanism of polymerisation. Nucleophilic substitution in aromatic compounds.

Learning outcomes
Students will acquire basic knowledge encompassing designing and synthesis of selected organic compounds.
Assessment criteria
Written exam or in case of an absence a written retake exam. The exam has a form of open synthetic problems. Positive mark is given when achieving above 50% of possible points. The presence is not compulsory
