Lecture covers the current knowledge of the cell structure and functions including: the basic cytological and molecular biology methods. Current techniques of molecular cell biology. Differences between pro- and eukaryotic cells, structures and functions of the cellular organelles, structure and function of cytoskeleton, cell movements, cell-cycle regulation, molecular aspects of mitosis, meiosis, and cytokinesis, signal transduction, apoptosis, embryonic and adult stem cells, cells, apoptosis, as well as structure and functions of cell membranes.
Prokaryotic cells - unique structural features of bacteria (including Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria) and archaea. Life cycles and resting forms of bacteria. Metabolism with emphasis on unique metabolic features (chemolithotrophy, anaerobic respiration, nitrogen fixation, anoxygenic photosynthesis, methanotrophy, methanogenesis). Interactions between prokaryotes, as well as between bacteria, archaea and eukaryotic organisms. Viruses - structure and replication.
Basic techniques of cell analysis (e.g. microscopy, immunolocalization). Cytoskeleton and cell movement. Mitosis and cell karyotype. Meiosis in plants and animals. Basic microbiological techniques. Isolation of bacteria from water, soil and air on microbiological media. Simple staining and differential Gram-staining of bacteria. Observation of living bacteria.

Assessment criteria
To pass the course (exercises plus lecture) it is necessary to pass the exam.
The exam will include practice and lecture material, it will consist of test questions (50% of the points available) and semi-open and open questions. To complete the course, it is necessary to obtain 51% of the points
