Fundamentals of physics 1000-711PFI
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic concepts and methods of describing reality in selected branches of physics. During the lecture, concepts and quantities are introduced, their meaning is explained and their application is demonstrated. During the exercises, problems are discussed and solved.
Program:
1. Basic concepts and laws of kinematics and dynamics of a material point and fluid statics.
2. Laws of conservation: momentum, angular momentum and energy.
3. Work and energy.
4. Fundamentals of electrostatics, potential and electric field.
5. Electric dipole field, permanent and induced dipole. Dielectrics, polarization.
6. Conductors, DC circuits.
7. Elements of quantum mechanics, stationary Schrödinger equation.
8. Selected issues of relativistic physics.

The student:
- analyzes the content of the problem, task,
- selects appropriate quantities to describe the problem,
- makes supporting drawings,
- discusses the predicted behavior of the described system,
- discusses the predicted characteristics of the solution,
- solves the task,
- discusses the obtained solution.
Knowledge:
- Has knowledge of the fundamentals of physics to the extent of understanding the structure and mechanisms of molecular and biomolecular systems (K_W02)
Assessment criteria
A student earns P points for:
- three written tests, duration 45 min each, points: 0-20 for each
- presenting a physics-related curiosity at the beginning of the lecture, duration about 5 minutes, twice, points per curiosity: 0-3
- activity at the meeting, one time per meeting, points: 0-1
Dates for the test and presentation of curiosities are set by the instructor.
Additional points can be earned for preparation for and participation in the team debate. A limited number of people can participate in the debate. The order of enrollment will be decided. Rules and opening of enrollment will be announced. One time. Points: 0-4
A student passes the class if the total score is at least 36 points and has no more than 3 unexcused absences from the exercises.
A grade on time 0
A person who scores at least 36 points can receive a grade without taking the exam, respectively:
3.0 when P > 35
3.5 when P > 49
4.0 when P > 55
4.5 when P > 69
5 when P > 79
5! when P > 88
Term 1 - Examination
Passing the class is a prerequisite for taking the exam in the first term.
The exam consists of discussion of two tasks selected by the instructor and their solutions, as well as answers to questions on the issues discussed in class.
Term 2 - Corrective exam
Those who have no more than 3 unexcused absences from classes are admitted.
