Minority and Indigenous Rights in Practice 3700-ISSC-MIRP-OG

The protection of Minorities, Indigenous communities, as well as cultural and linguistic diversity is one of the most serious challenges of the present day. Many instruments of national and international law seek to respond to these needs. However, reports monitoring the implementation of those regulations demonstrate that we still have a lot to improve in this area.

During the course, students will explore the most important aspects of the legal protection of Minorities and Indigenous communities, with particular emphasis on language rights and their influence on education, political representation, recognition of traditional knowledge, and environmental protection.
As a result, participants will be able to consciously evaluate and participate in activities aimed at improving the situation of Minority and Indigenous groups.

The graduate:
K_W02 Understands the relationships between the various dimensions of social change (especially with regard to various aspects of mobility and "crises") and knows the approaches to this process related to many scientific fields and disciplines.
K_W06 Understands the value of an interdisciplinary approach to the analysis and interpretation of social changes in the modern world (especially in the Mediterranean countries and in Central and Eastern Europe).
K_U01 Is able to select and make a critical assessment of information coming from various scientific, popular science, journalistic and other sources.
K_U04 Is able to interpret social processes in an advanced and interdisciplinary way, especially the changes taking place in them.
K_U05 Is able to prepare an oral or written presentation taking into account the needs of recipients, in particular with the use of a range of digital tools; can present arguments to support her/his beliefs and knowledge in a logical and convincing manner.
K_K01 Is ready to undertake lifelong learning.
K_K02 Is ready to take up teamwork - also in a research team.
K_K05 Is ready to show respect for partners in the discussion and uses substantive arguments; understands the principles of tolerance and cultural differences.

Kryteria oceniania

Students will self-assess their work and commitment during the classes. The basis for this assessment will be participation, final work, or presentation of a selected issue.

A maximum of two absences per semester is allowed.
