Critical Political Analysis 3700-ISSC-CPA-WOR
The course is designed not only for students of political sciences but for all who want to develop skills of critical analysis of social phenomena related to power. It provides understanding of basic concepts such as politics, power, state, positionality, intersectionality, as well as of main theoretical traditions of critical analysis. It helps to understand what does it mean to conduct a critical research and what normative assumptions are present in different theories. The students will learn how to select the most proper theory for their research interest and how to prepare a rigorous research: how to construct a research problem, an argument, questions, definitions, how to write an argumentative and logical text, how to present own argument and give critical feedback to the others with due respect. The essay will take form of a small research project with application of one of the discussed theories. The oral exam will be a discussion of the essays. The knowledge and skills will prepare students not only for an academic career but for critical engagement with political reality in all domains of professional life.
