Media pluralism and diversity 2700-ERASMUS-MPAD
The course will be launched with examination of traditional concepts and approaches to media pluralism, diversity and representation. The specific focus will be given to multiple layers of media plurality, from the perspective of socio-political diversity as the cultural context alongside key findings from international research projects on social inclusiveness, including 1) representation of minorities in the media, 2) local, regional and community media, and 3) gender equality in the media (Media Pluralism Monitor). The focus then naturally turns into organisational practices to support community and media representation, with a selection of media and other industries who have designed their strategies to ‘improve humanity’, and experiences for ‘the greater good’. The course ends up with an assignment aiming to address the cultural conditions for a pro-social workplace, which in turn is highly compatible with the media values.
