International trade, trade policy and economic integration 2400-ENSM073A

As part of the seminar, on the third semester (short presentations combined with the discussion), selected classic and the latest articles on the analysis of changes in international trade flows, services, foreign direct investment and the effects of various trade policy instruments are discussed.
These are articles published in renowned international journals. This should enable mastering professional English and understanding which elements of commercial theory and policy are controversial and / or can be the subject of empirical research. Students will also get acquainted with selected databases and magazines (JSTOR and others). At the end of the year, the topic and structure of the master's thesis should be specified. In turn, the fourth semester are devoted to a thorough analysis of issues selected by seminarians and the presentation of fragments of MA theses.

Master's thesis usually covers topics related to trade in goods and services, foreign direct investment, trade policy implications and the effects of economic integration. This is, for example, an empirical analysis of the effects of selected trade policy instruments, often in the context of Poland's participation in the European Union. Some works present the principles of instruments (eg anti-dumping) and the effects of their application to international trade flows. Other works also address issues related to the verification of some elements of the theory of international trade.
In their works, students usually present simple or slightly more complex models explaining commercial or integration effects. Standard econometric analyzes of trade in goods and services are most frequently used. In some theses, partial-equation simulation models are used.

The empirical analysis is usually on trade data contained in the World Bank and WTO database (WITS) macro and microeconomic data contained in WDI (World Development Indicators) and, for example, data on gravity models (on the CEPIII database).

• Analysis of the impact of the abolition of import tariffs on cocoa paste from the perspective of developing exporting countries
• Analysis of Brexit’s implications for agricultural trade between UK and EU.
• The Coal Market - Export Strategy For Poland
• Global Crisis of 2008-2009 and international trade – the analysis based on gravity model
• Determinants of second-hand motor vehicles prices. The analysis based on model of hedonic prices.
• Determinants of horizontal and vertical intra-industry trade (in the exchange between the "old" and four new EU members)
• Competition on the aeronautics market - competition between Airbus and Boeing in the light of strategic trade policy
• The "Flying Geese" model. Is it applicable in Europe?
• The use of art. XII GATT in restoring the balance of payments balance with particular emphasis on Poland;
• Subsidies: elements of regulation theory and practice on the example of the sugar market in Poland;
• EU anti-dumping policy in the light of theory and empirical research
• Economic integration and cultural diversity - an example of cinematographic films. Economic analysis of the problem.
• Effects of the liberalization of trade in telecommunications services in the European Union
• Impact of foreign direct investment on international trade - substitution or complementarity?
• National determinants of FDI inflow to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe
