Economic Analysis of Law and Politics 2400-EN3SL201A
The seminar starts with introductory classes devoted to the presentation of the methodology of economic research and the rules for preparing and submitting bachelor theses. The basic theories and results of most important empirical studies in the fields of Economic Analysis of Law and Politics are also presented. Later during the course students receive guidance in selecting a topic for the thesis, determining its structure, gathering literature and preparing an empirical study (if the thesis includes one). Students present their reseach and its results during the seminar. Discussions and further guidance follow.

Knowledge:
The student knows selected aspects of economic analysis of the political decision-making process and economic analysis of law. If so requested by the students, to a limited extent the seminar may also encompass topics at the intersection of Economics and other (in particular social) sciences, demonstrating in how many domains of human life economic analysis is highly useful (and how to apply it). The student understands, by reference to economic theory methodology, selected political mechanisms and legal solutions, as well as their consequences. The student knows some methods of economic analysis applied to decision-making in the political, social and legal context, as well as selected empirical studies in this field. The student understands the possibilities of applying the theory and methods of economics to the study of topics from the fields of other social sciences. The student knows how to prepare scientific papers, conduct economic research and present its results.
Skills:
The student is able to interpret selected processes from the political sphere and legal system through the lens of economics, as well as use his/her knowledge of economic analysis of law and politics to analyze (on a basic level) by himself/herself specific political decisions, mechanisms and phenomena, as well as existing/drafted legal solutions. The student is also capable of foreseeing some effects of such decisions, mechanisms and phenomena and understands their economic and social impact. The student is able to prepare scientific papers and oral presentations regarding economic analysis of politics or law.
Social competences:
The student is open to searching for new economics-based methods of analysis of political and social phenomena. He/she is capable of working individually and in cooperation (under guidance) of the supervisor in preparing the bachelor thesis and its presentation. The student can formulate and express his/her own views during the discussion, as well as analyze points of view of others.

Kryteria oceniania
Assessment in the 1st semester is based on preparing a preliminary outline of the bachelor thesis and its presentation during the seminar.
Assessment in the 2nd semester is based on progress in preparing the bachelor thesis, its content and presentation during the seminar.
Presence in class at introductory meetings and selected presentations of other students is obligatory.
