Communication and relationship building in education 2300-AE-CaME-COM
The main goal of this course is to practice interpersonal
communication as a foundation for relationship-building in
developmental adult education settings. The program includes three
main semi-courses: Basics of Interpersonal Communication,
Nonviolent Communication (NVC), and Assertive Communication.
There is also a workshop on forms of listening and related ways of
communicating in the context of building relationships in adult
education settings.
This course covers the following areas:
- basics of interpersonal communication as a foundations for a
constructive relationship-building in adult education
- the notion of communication and it’s types
- barriers and errors in communication (e.g., negative attitude,
manipulation, making decisions for others, interruptions, etc.)
- listening-based approach to communication
- speaking skills
- working on a positive attitude to communication as a
developmental experience
- non-verbal communication
- basics of emotional intelligence (recognition, regulation,
expression and understanding of emotions and feelings; self-
awareness; basics of mindfulness; enhancement of empathy)
- basics of non-violent communication
- assertive communication
- the art of praise and constructive criticism (feedback which
builds education relationships, responses gradation, how to
respons to praise and criticism)

KNOWLEDGE
- student knows and understands the basics of interpersonal
communication, including assertive and NVC, listening-oriented
communication style
(contributes and enhances the K_W05 outcome of the AEDAD
program)
SKILLS
The student has skills in areas like:
- interpersonal communication
- assertive communication
- NVC
- practising the listening forms needed (and accordingly shifted) in a
particular educational or developmental situation
- building healthy relationships with themselves and others
(correlated with K_U03)
SOCIAL COMPETENCES and attitudes
The student is:
- aware of their emotions and how to navigate them in educational
contexts
- positive in their attitudes in communication experiences, including
more empathic attitude
- respects human diversity, psychological boundaries and the comfort
of themselves and others
- is prepared to build relationships based on constructive and
assertive communication in various educational contexts, including
multicultural environments

Requirements to achieve credit:
- active participation in class activities – both individual and group
work 100%
A maximum of 1 absence is allowed.
