(po angielsku) The course introduces students to the key concepts, institutions, and processes associated with civil society and its role in the contemporary world.. It explores the foundations of civic participation and civil society, with particular emphasis on their links to democracy, public institutions, and social capital. Particular attention is given to the role played by civil society organisations (CSOs) in representing interests, delivering services, mobilising citizens, and contributing to democratic governance.
The course also examines the diversity of organisational forms within civil society, including the legal frameworks in which CSOs operate, the main types of organisations, and their principal fields of activity. Students will analyse different models of cooperation between public administration and the third sector, as well as the changing role of CSOs in contemporary governance.
A separate part of the course is devoted to current challenges facing civil society, including processes of de-democratisation and public policies that affect the functioning and autonomy of civil society organisations in the twenty-first century. The programme also introduces practical aspects of third-sector activity, including the principles and techniques of fundraising for non-governmental organisations and public institutions.
Finally, the course adopts a comparative geographical perspective in order to examine the development and specific characteristics of civil society organisations in different regions of the world. Case studies and regional comparisons will cover North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, allowing students to identify similarities and differences in the historical development, institutional environment, and contemporary role of civil society across diverse political and social contexts.
