Introduction to Intellectual Property Management 1200-2EN-INTIPM2M
During the lecture, the following issues will be discussed:
- the definition of law, sources of law, and intellectual property (IP);
- an overview of legal acts concerning the protection of intellectual property;
- copyright and related rights: definitions, procedures, and protection;
- trademarks: definitions, procedures, and protection;
- patents and industrial designs: definitions, procedures, and protection;
- competition law and consumer protection law: definitions, procedures, and protection;
- intellectual property regulations and management at the University of Warsaw.
Estimated Student Workload (per semester): 37.5 hours
• Attendance at lectures – 15 hours
• Consultations, homework – 7.5 hours
• Preparation for the colloqia and exam – 15 hours

After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- identify and distinguish between different types of intellectual property (IP) rights;
- understand and apply the legal frameworks governing the protection of various IP rights;
- identify institutions responsible for the protection and enforcement of selected IP rights;
- demonstrate familiarity with intellectual property regulations and management procedures at the University of Warsaw.
Knowledge – the graduate knows and understands:
K_W14 – basic concepts and principles of industrial property protection and copyright law; is able to use patent information resources.
Skills – the graduate is able to:
K_U13 – independently acquire knowledge and develop professional skills using various sources (written and electronic), including foreign-language sources.
K_U14 – use patent information resources.
Social Competences – the graduate is ready to:
K_K04 – systematically familiarize themselves with scientific and popular science literature in order to deepen and broaden knowledge, with awareness of the risks of obtaining information from unverified sources, including the Internet.
K_K06 – fulfill social obligations and co-organize activities for the benefit of the community.
Kryteria oceniania
Students will be required to take a test covering copyright and industrial property rights. The final grade will be calculated as the arithmetic average of the grades obtained by the student.
The second approach is applicable.
