Physics Laboratory, 2nd Level A1 1100-4PLA1

1. Physics Laboratory, 2nd Level is divided in two parts (marked with symbols A and B) performed in the winter and summer semesters, respectively. Each part is equivalent to 45 hours and 5 ECTS credits2.
2. Physics Laboratory, 2nd Level is carried out in research groups of the Faculty of Physics. It consists in completing of a semester scientific task assigned by a supervisor - a research worker.
3. Students should contact to the heads of chairs (at the Institute of Theoretical Physics) or divisions (at the Institute of Experimental Physics or the Institute of Geophysics) at the beginning of the semester, asking for the assignment of a supervisor and a semester-long scientific task. The choice of the research group should result from individual interests of the student, including thoughts about the upcoming choice of specialization.
4. Students who have no specific scientific preferences or are not familiar with the Faculty of Physics structure or have other problems with the group selection can get help from the coordinator of the Physics Laboratory.
5. A scientific task may also be realized in a scientific unit outside the Faculty of Physics after obtaining the agreement of the coordinator.
6. Upon receipt of the task, the student should immediately notify the Laboratory 's secretariat about the exercise starting by sending an e-mail. The mail should contain the student's name and surname, the title of the assignment and the supervisor's details.
7. When performing the tasks, students work individually under the supervision and guidance of the researcher. Students team work on a given scientific problem is allowed, but the topics of the tasks should be defined individually.
8. After completing the task, its results should be prepared in the form of a report. The preferred form of the report is a scientific article in English. The report should be prepared individually. The supervisor assesses the report and the student’s attitude while performing the task.
9. Passing the Physics Laboratory, 2nd Level takes place after submitting the grade to the coordinator. The rating may be:
- entered by the supervisor on the first page of the report, which will be delivered to the coordinator or to the Laboratory's secretariat in the form of a printout;
- sent by e-mail to the Laboratory's secretariat as a scan of the first page of the report with the grade signed by the supervisor;
- sent in an e-mail from the exercise supervisor to the secretariat or directly to the coordinator
