Law, 5 year Master’s studies - M.A. (studies paid by students) (NWJ-PR)

Upon completion of the unified masters’ studies in Law, the graduate:
1) has acquired a broad and well-developed knowledge of the character of legal sciences, their place and importance within the system of sciences, and their relation to other sciences; has developed a greater awareness of the individual as a subject of national and international law, of the rights inherent to her/him and the principles of their protection;
2) has acquired a broad and well-developed knowledge of general legal disciplines (introduction to legal science; legal logic; sociology of law; philosophy of law), legal-historical disciplines (Roman law, history of law and the state; legal and political thought), and disciplines related to particular branches of law (esp. the substantive and procedural law of: administrative law, civil and penal law, commercial law, financial law and international law).
3) knows, understands and competently applies the appropriate terminology of particular branches of law; is aware of data-acquisition methods and tools, incl. techniques appropriate for legal sciences and research methods applicable in legal-sciences.
4) has knowledge of various types of legal relationships and the principles governing them; competently applies and is able to functionalise the institutions of particular legal disciplines and apply correct legal terminology when doing so.
5) knows the Polish legal system, the internal relations within this system and its connection with EU law and international law.
6) skilfully operates within Polish legal system, applies the norms of particular legal disciplines to arrive at autonomous resolutions of concrete problems; is able to independently find appropriate legal grounds, judgments and literature pertaining to the issue at stake; is able within the scope of his/her particular interests (as indicated by the chosen specialisation subjects) to resolve complex practical problems within a specific legal discipline.
7) demonstrates an ability to prepare basic documents and pleadings, and more advanced abilities regarding matters related to his/her own particular interests (as indicated by the chosen specialisation subjects), to formulate written analyses and interpretations of concrete legal problems by applying his/her acquired theoretical knowledge and independently utilising various sources.
8) demonstrates a well-developed ability to prepare oral presentations concerning legal matters, understood broadly, and issues at the borderline of law and other chosen disciplines, by applying his/her acquired knowledge.
9) is able to undertake any employment that requires legal knowledge, applying his/her acquired knowledge to resolve legal dilemmas and issues giving rise to divergent interpretations – independently establishes possible solutions and carries them out with regard to ethical norms.
10) is able to successfully work in a team (whether consisting solely of lawyers or otherwise) and to assume various roles in a team; effectively organises his/her own work and/or others’ work; is able to critically assess the level of progress of a team’s work.
2. Duration of studies: 300 ECTS points over 10 semesters

5. Information on apprenticeship period (duration and number of ECTS points)
All students of full-time or part-time studies who commenced studies in the academic year 2008/2009 or later must undergo an apprenticeship lasting 320 hours, which includes 80 hours of court-practice, for which the student shall receive 8 ECTS points.

A student who has taken part in a student apprenticeship shall:
1) demonstrate an ability to practically apply theoretical knowledge about the Polish legal system in order to independently resolve concrete problems in particular legal disciplines.
2) possess skills and experience in preparing basic documents, pleadings or written analyses and interpretations of concrete legal problems and in preparing and delivering presentations regarding legal matters.
3) demonstrate knowledge on the practical importance of applying ethical norms when practising a legal profession.
