BA Seminar: Popular Genres in Literature 4219-ZS048
This BA proseminar will focus on the analysis of popular literature, particularly examples of such popular genres as crime, romance, science fiction, fantasy, and horror. I will be happy to supervise BA papers that analyze particular examples of such literature, as well as meta-level analyses of how popular genres work, including explorations of fandom and fanfiction.
Over the course of the semester students will be expected to write a BA paper.

- are able to organize a basic research process leading to write a BA thesis;
- have skills necessary to find and evaluate primary and secondary sources;
- are able to construct a coherent and logical argument;
- can document sources in an academic way (in the Chicago Style) and avoid plagiarism;
- can present the results of their research in an academic way (written and oral);
- knows basic rules of editing a thesis in English.
Competences:
- can organize their research process;
- is able to properly plan and undertake a cultural / media analysis of chosen media texts;
- are aware of the possible consequences of plagiarism;
- can give meaningful feedback to others in a respectful way.
Assessment criteria
Pass or fail, based on the timely submission of a BA paper.
