Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE
After completing the course, the students:
- have knowledge of the history and present of the relations between the US and Latin America
- are familiarized with the forms of cooperation between the US and Latin America and with their evolution over the years
- understand the specific nature and complexity of the relations between the US and Latin America, as well as the reasons for Anti-Americanism in Latin America
- have basic knowledge of the different structures and institutions that operate within the Inter-American system
- have knowledge of the structural and institutional changes in the Western Hemisphere and understand their causes, course and consequences
SKILLS
After completing the course, the students:
- can search, analyse, evaluate, select and use the information on Inter-American relations from various sources
- are able to explain and interpret the phenomena and processes in the Western Hemisphere
- are able to present arguments in the discussions on Inter-American relations
- can critically receive media coverage of Inter-American relations
- can predict the consequences of current political decisions in the Western Hemisphere
SOCIAL COMPETENCES
After completing the course, the students:
- understand the need for continuous learning, is open to new phenomena and ideas and ready to change their opinions in the face of new data and arguments
- can work individually, as well as cooperate with others in a group, accepting different roles
- can take a stand in ideological discussions on the socio-political phenomena in the Western Hemisphere
- are ready to use knowledge of Inter-American relations in their professional careers
Assessment criteria
The final evaluation will be based on the results of the written test and the students' active participation during the classes with the following weight:
written test – 70%
active participation – 30%
