American Studies Colloquia 4219-OZN-I
Open Academic Meetings are events extending beyond the curriculum and include conferences, guest lectures, film screenings and discussions. They are supposed to create an opportunity for students to fully participate in the life of the academia, acquaint them with the state of research and discussion in various fields and provide a forum for expression and verification of one's views in the academic context. Moreover, they engage students in the life of the Center in the process of organization, facilitation and promotion of such events.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will:
KNOWLEDGE
- Be familiar with the products of American culture and its historical, social, and political contexts, as well as the manifestations and processes characteristic of contemporary cultural, social, and political life in the United States.
- Understand the interdisciplinary nature of American studies and the necessity of drawing from the achievements of other scientific disciplines.
SKILLS
- Independently present their knowledge through reports and presentations, gathering and selecting data from various sources, and expanding and supplementing their knowledge about the USA.
- Actively participate in discussions, ask questions, and draw conclusions, applying the principles of effective communication.
- Engage in the academic life of the Center by assisting in the organization of conferences, lectures, or screenings.
SOCIAL COMPETENCES
- Critically evaluate the views presented by other speakers in the context of the acquired knowledge in the field and formulate their own opinions.
- Utilize the acquired American studies knowledge for the benefit of their social environment.
- Continue learning and contribute to the development of American studies.
Assessment criteria
Participation in lectures and presentations. Grades based on the scope and character of individual contribution.
