Advanced Practical Spanish 4219-FL207
In order to develop all language skills, the following topics will be introduced:
GRAMMAR
-Revision of past tenses: Pretérito Perfecto, Indefinido, Imperfecto, Pluscuamperfecto, reported speech, future tenses Futuro Perfecto
and Imperfecto, conditional sentences, Presente de Subjuntivo.
-Past tenses of the Subjuntivo
-Conditional sentences II, III, mixto
-Passive voice with verbs ser and estar
-Periphrastic constructions
VOCABULARY
-Arguing and counterarguing in discussions (ecology, global warming, new means of communication, advertising, work, free time, and
others)
-Vocabulary found in the daily press, Spanish and Latin American, lexical material related to socio-political events and phenomena
related to the culture of Spanish-speaking countries
-Understanding documentaries, TV series, film excerpts
-Language of mediation using indirect speech and the conditional tense
-Vocabulary related to everyday life in Spanish-speaking countries and understanding of different registers and varieties of Spanish

Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
Upon completing the course, the student should have mastered the knowledge (grammar and vocabulary) and practical skills in all language proficiencies at the B2 level, according to the CEFR.
- possesses knowledge about selected issues concerning social and political matters, as well as some cultural elements of Latin American countries.
Skills:
- can express themselves in Spanish on topics related to Spanish-speaking countries.
- can recognize the differences between Castilian Spanish and Latin American Spanish, as well as different language registers.
- independently uses vocabulary, phraseology, and sentence structures correctly in spoken language.
- can communicate in various situations, both academic and casual.
- can participate in discussions on complex topics, present their own arguments, and defend their opinions using specialist terminology in Spanish.
- can express themselves in writing and prepare presentations using advanced information and communication techniques in Spanish.
Social Competencies:
- is ready to formulate their own opinions in Spanish, using the knowledge acquired on topics related to American studies.
Assessment criteria
The final grade is influenced by:
Attendance and homework (2 absences allowed)– 10%
Homeworks, essays and short exercises - 30%
The final exam – 60%
