Methodology of social science 4208-MBN
The aim of the class is to introduce essential socio-economic research methods. Thematic scope of the class includes:
• Mind mapping
• Critical thinking
• Essential terms of research methodology (hypothesis, variable, falsification, paradigm, quantitative and qualitative research, etc.)
• Definitions
• Argumentation
• Questionnaire
• In-depth interviewing
• Participatory observation
• Basis of qualitative data analysis

Learning outcomes
Student
(1) knows knowledge, skills and social competences related to the preparation of final and diploma theses in compliance with the law, including copyright in a given scientific discipline (KW_04)
(2)knows fundamental notions from the field of methodology (K_W06)
(3)knows fundamental principles of using quantitative, qualitative and mixed research methods

(4) knows fundamental principles of elaboration, formulation of research questions and hypotheses and of choosing of methods as well as of preparing of research plans (K_W06)
(5)knows how to prepare research plan in the field of urban and regional studies (K_U08)
(6)is able to assess correctness of research plan in the field of urban and regional studies (K_U08)
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria include: a) test of knowledge b) activity during the workshop.
