Spanish Language - 1st semester 4206-LH-1
Didactic method: Eclectic, mostly communicative.
Individual, team and pair work (ability to ask and answer questions, to start and end a conversation).
Examination:
In each semester there are 3 tests covering grammar and vocabulary. The first semester is approved after the final written test. The course ends with a test after the second semester, which consists of oral and written part.
1st semester:
Grammar includes:
- conjugation of regular and irregular verbs of 3 groups in the present tense
- correct use of the verbs SER, ESTAR and HABER
- direct and indirect object (expressed with a pronoun)
- imperative mood.
- gerund of the present tense
- periphrastic constructions (IR A + infinitive, PENSAR/NECESITAR/TENER QUE + inf. etc.)
Vocabulary includes:
- ability to introduce oneself, to talk about oneself and one’s family
- describing a person (appearance, personality, clothes, profession)
- describing a house (rooms, furniture, equipment)
- city (communication, shops)
- talking about daily tasks and pastimes
- weather, climate
- hobbies, likes and dislikes
- dialogues: in a shop, at a railway station, in a restaurant, in a doctor’s office
2nd semester:
Grammar includes:
- past tenses: Pretérito Perfecto (repetition), Pretérito Indefinido, Pretérito Imperfecto, Pretérito Pluscuamperfecto (depending on the group’s pace), Futuro Imperfecto
- sequence of tenses
- imperative mode – positive (repetition) and negative
- subjunctive of the present tense
- some differences between the Spanish of Spain and Latin America (the usage of Pret. Indefinido and Pret. Perfecto, forms of address)
Vocabulary includes:
- everyday life and leisure
- media (radio, TV, press), the Internet
- travel, holiday
- historical events, discoveries and inventions
- biography, CV
- social relations, family, roles and stereotypes
The intermediate group will cover in the 1st semester curriculum which corresponds to the A2 level (which is equal to the level of the 2nd semester of the beginners’ group).
2nd semester – continued from A2 and B1 level
- sequence of tenses, future tenses: Futuro Imperfecto, Futuro Perfecto, conditional and subjunctive mood (continued)
- expressing supposition and suggestion

Learning outcomes
Mastering the Spanish language on A1 level in the 1st semester and intermediate level in the 2nd semester (large part of A2 level). Acquiring 4 basic skills: listening, reading with comprehension, speaking and writing. Presentation of grammatical structures and vocabulary.
The knowledge of grammar and vocabulary acquired in the 1st semester allows the student to:
– introduce oneself, describe people, family, objects, house, city
– tell time and season of the year
– describe daily tasks, customs, hobby, pastimes
– discuss weather and climate
The knowledge of grammar and vocabulary acquired in the 1st semester allows the student to:
– talk about the past (travels, historic events etc.)
– describe people and places from the past
– expressing will, wish, emotion
– give one's opinion in a conversation on various issues of social life (media, Internet, human relations)
