Latin American reality in documentary films 4206-I-F-007
During a few lectures, students will know the complex reality of contemporary Latin American societies. Based on the provided information, films and critical analyses, listeners will be accustomed to main film trends present in Latin-American cinematography. Lectures will be supplemented with: - discussing particular themes and motifs in Latin-American cinematography;- demonstration of a chosen film or its clips representing a given period or trend;- discussion about a given film.
During the course the following aspects are going to be covered:·
-poetics of documentary film in Latin America, main themes;·
-Polish emigration in Argentina;·
-Latin American migration on the continent;·
-neoandinian culture;·
-women in contemporary Latin American societies; ·
-a film character in an urban and rural space;·
-multiculturalism, cultural penetration, clash of values, western cultural and moral patterns;·
-social contrasts and problems, injustice, a fight for dignity;·
-role of culture and artistic movements and their not only political involvement;·
-protests and riots as an opposition against economic inequality.

Learning outcomes
After the final credit is obtained an individual student shall be able to:
- perceive and understand the culture-creative role of the moving pictures;
- know main representatives, authors of a given film trend;
- recognize and characterize typical means of communication and artistic expression in film;
- analyze given aspects and motifs;
- evaluate a film.
Assessment criteria
Participation in the discussion, final exam – test.
One unexcused absence allowed.
