Students completing the course should be competent in the use of academic language, in speaking an writing, should understand specialised scientific texts and summarise the theses presented in them, should build a logical, coherent statement based on the collected source materials, presenting the main issues and ending with a conclusion.
Systematically developed linguistic competences during classes should allow him/her to take part in a discussion on topics taken up in articles or broader scientific studies and to present his/her own view.
Students should be able to take notes on the texts they have read and on lectures, should be able to collect and select source materials and use various information techniques.

Assessment criteria
Attendance at class is a prerequisite for obtaining credit. Three absences are allowed, each subsequent absence regardless of excuse/medical clearance requires an on-call meeting and presentation of the material from the class.
Students receive credit on the basis of:
1. attendance in class
2. preparation and active participation in classes conducted in a stationary and asynchronous mode (S_U09),
3. timely and conscientious performance of written and speaking tasks in class and as part of homework (S_W01, S_W02, S_U16, S_U09),
4. passing the final test at 60% level (S_W01, S_W02),
Tools verifying skills:
- exercises on the reception and production of longer complex texts, including specialist, scientific and literary texts.
- Participation in discussions (making theses and arguments),
- reviewing specialist works and literary works,
- public speaking,
- translation exercises
- written works, public speeches, listening comprehension referencing, summarising, participation in discussions, etc.
The final grade for the course is the average of the partial grades obtained during the semester and the grade of the final test. Test grading scale:
90-100% - 5
85-89% - 4,5
75-84% - 4
70-74% - 3,5
60-69% - 3
0-59% - 2
Note: Those who actively and regularly participate in class may be exempted from the final test and/or exam. They will receive a grade of 5.
Criteria for the assessment of written work:
- completeness/length (the work contains all the required components and exhausts the topic),
- content
- relevance to the topic,
- clarity and logic of the argument,
- insight and quality of argumentation,
- organisation of the content,
- language: linguistic correctness - grammatical, lexical, orthographic, stylistic, etc. (criteria may vary depending on the assignment)
- number, selection and documentation of sources if the formulation of the work requires this
